“We are almost there captain!” one of my crew says.
I stare out at a vast island and dense jungle inside where there is a paradise behind.
You might be thinking, why not go around the island and easily reach paradise? Well it is not so simple. You see, the land is magic. Anyone who tries to “cheat the system” gets bad luck. And as you go through your life, the bad luck increased every day. So it is a lose-lose because we cant cheat the system, and even if we try we won’t survive long.
We lower the boat’s anchor by the shore of the island so that the boat doesn’t go off into the ocean without us.
The board is lowered, allowing us to set foot on the land.
I take a note out of my pocket and read it.
Dear Father,
We are so very worried about you. Mother is panicking and praying to Jesus, and I am hoping you make it safely there and back. We miss you much and I would like to keep sending you letters, but they would reach the island by the time you get home, so I am forced to wait.
Much Love,
Lilly
I love my wife and daughter very much, and I can’t afford to lose them. I too pray to god every once in a while, hoping for a safe journey and a safe family of mine.
A day before we set sail, the entire crew went to the church for a sort of all the best ceremony, and the priest told me and my men,” We hope you are safe, though there might be obstacles. I can not make out what the obstacles are, but I know that they are dangerous, so make sure to be prepared.”
My lucky charm for the trip was this letter, which my daughter gave me before I left. She told me to read it as soon as I got on shore. The jungle was basically a maze. A maze, but if you get stranded from the group, all I can do is wish you good luck.
The first phew turns of the maze were quite easy, but as soon as we took a right turn, I giant boulder came from the ceiling. I saw a slight opening where I can avoid the boulders. I jump into the opening barely escaping the danger. The rest of the crew fall behind into the turn, almost getting smashed into smithereens by the giant rock. Me and a few member of the team walk towards the next left, but a huge fog blinds us, and our sight of the other part of the crew are left behind. The only thing left from them is their screaming voices, which can be heard throughout the maze.
As we take the left turn, we are greeted by even denser fog. The fog seems so magical, yet scary. It is so dense that even sound can somehow can’t go through it. Without a way for the rest of the team to hear me, I take out Lily’s note, and write on the back of it, “Tie the climbing rope around everyone’s waist, so we will not lose each other.”
After they tie the rope, I lead the crew into the dense fog.
At the end of the dense fog, there is a corridor, and at the end of the corridor, I see a gigantic door. I have a suspicious feeling about it though. We take off the rope and carefully step across hoping that we don’t accidentally step on a pressure plate. We stepped on one anyway. Sharp blades fall from the ceiling, cutting the front of my hat and almost my nose off. Next, there were spears that almost cut me. They came from the side walls. Reminds me of Indiana Jones, I think to myself. After the spears, it seemed like we were done. We reached the door. I try to push it open but it wouldn’t budge. I let my smartest member try to open it, and somehow he was able to do it. Was I not worthy enough? I asked myself.
Then I realized that I tried to push open the door instead of pull it open.
Then I saw it. The thing I was longing my whole life. The parrots from paradise…
A few says later, everyone somehow made it back home. This was an achievement that will never be forgotten in history.
